CYCLING TRAINING IN THE OFF SEASON

Muscle ups, pistols, rope climbs, HSPU in all varieties, HS walking, CTB chin-ups, TTB, barbell complexes, ring dips.  All of these things belong in the trick bag that the competitive CF athlete has to have in their arsenal to compete at the next level.  The reality of the situation is that not only do they need to have them but they also need to be able to a fuck ton of reps at each one.  Over the years we have seen workouts organized at the regional level that have a large number of repetitions.  For example this years 5 round deficit HSPU workout, the chipper workout with ONE HUNDRED GHD SITUPS, and the 15 MU ascending clean workout.

WHEN DOES FITNESS MAKE SENSE FOR HEALTH OR FOR COMPETITION?

One of the great things about fitness is that it attracts people from all walks of life into your facilities and you have the opportunity to help all of them in their fitness journey.  Arguably one of the bad things about fitness is that it is built on a foundation of competition with the games being the Holy Grail at the end of the chase.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is what it is and has inspired a ton of people to unleash their inner athlete.  But where this model falls short is that not everyone is a competitor nor do they wish to structure their life around what it takes to be one.   The true problem lies with a model that makes the assumption that everyone does want to get jacked up about being a competitor.

But I think a lot of people ask themselves the question of why they feel stagnant sometimes. They might spend a couple of years doing something, they might spend 10 years doing something. But I generally think that people feel stagnant when they’re stagnant. I don’t think that it needs to be much more complicated than that.”

5 COMMON PROGRAM DESIGN MISTAKES AND HOW TO AVOID THEM

I have programmed thousands and thousands of workouts and programs for athletes over the past twenty years. Despite all this experience, I have made mistakes. Sometimes I see my mistake immediately upon writing and reviewing the program, other times the mistake has taken years to discover. It was only when I became a coach of coaches rather than a coach of athletes that I finally was given a different perspective that allowed me to not only learn what caused my mistakes but how to fix them.
