6 EVENTS OPEX LOVES TO ATTEND
People often ask us where we go to compete and learn more. We have the unique privilege of having access to many of the more well known conferences in the market but we also have found some smaller events that are gems! Here is a small list of the competitions and events that we always try to send people to when given the opportunity.
NOTICING FROM THE GAMES; SCORING POTENTIAL
The rankings above are how the 2015 CrossFit Games COULD HAVE unfolded with MINOR tweaks to scoring methods. If you watched the Sunday finale, suffice it to say, the pegboard proved difficult for the majority of female competitors. Out of the remaining 37-competitior-field, three completed all three pegboard repetitions, two completed two pegboard repetitions, and seven completed one pegboard repetition. This left a MASSIVE tie for 13th-place amongst twenty-five individuals NOT completing a single pegboard repetition.
DISAPPOINTED IN COMPETITION?
Losing a game, getting an injury, not improving your personal record; disappointment is synonymous with competition. As The Open draws to a close you too may be feeling disappointment. James FitzGerald, Founder and Director of OPEX Fitness, offers two helpful perspectives.
WHAT DICTATES SUCCESS?
When it comes to sport, what dictates success? Well it depends ; the sport, the athlete's skill level, experience, etc. James Fitzgerald touches on this topic but if you have any questions please comment below the video!

CYCLING TRAINING IN THE OFF SEASON
Muscle ups, pistols, rope climbs, HSPU in all varieties, HS walking, CTB chin-ups, TTB, barbell complexes, ring dips. All of these things belong in the trick bag that the competitive CF athlete has to have in their arsenal to compete at the next level. The reality of the situation is that not only do they need to have them but they also need to be able to a fuck ton of reps at each one. Over the years we have seen workouts organized at the regional level that have a large number of repetitions. For example this years 5 round deficit HSPU workout, the chipper workout with ONE HUNDRED GHD SITUPS, and the 15 MU ascending clean workout.

GETTING COMFORTABLE WITH UNCOMFORTABLE
Whether you are an athlete, a business owner, or somebody looking for health and fulfillment there becomes a time when you must go through discomfort. That discomfort can come in many forms:
WHEN DOES FITNESS MAKE SENSE FOR HEALTH OR FOR COMPETITION?
One of the great things about fitness is that it attracts people from all walks of life into your facilities and you have the opportunity to help all of them in their fitness journey. Arguably one of the bad things about fitness is that it is built on a foundation of competition with the games being the Holy Grail at the end of the chase. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is what it is and has inspired a ton of people to unleash their inner athlete. But where this model falls short is that not everyone is a competitor nor do they wish to structure their life around what it takes to be one. The true problem lies with a model that makes the assumption that everyone does want to get jacked up about being a competitor.
