HIRE FOR ATTITUDE, TRAIN FOR SKILLS

The Business of Fitness Coaching

When you’re thinking about who you’re going to hire you have to think about what service they’re going to provide to your gym.

Remember, we’ve discussed this in the past that you can’t just hire somebody who’s not going to serve a direct purpose. You need to make sure you first get the right person for the right role. Let’s assume it’s a coach, you need to know what you need them for.

Perhaps you are a very masculine presence and you need a corresponding feminine presence. From there, you need to be really clear in your job description that you post to any of these different sites or even if you go to something like an Indeed or ZIPRecruiter you have to post clearly what you’re looking for. You must post exactly why you want that type of a person to come into your gym. Until they connect to your story and until they connect to your core values you could get a wrong fit even if they have the right prerequisite knowledge.

Remember, when you’re hiring somebody it’s really about hiring bedside manner and teaching skill.
